This Nicolle chair is an example of French industrial design, originally created by Paul-Henry Nicolle. The piece is constructed from pressed and tubular steel with a dark gunmetal grey metallic finish. It features a wide, curved butterfly or whale tail backplate secured with four rivets to a swan-neck support bar. The circular seat is designed with a central aperture. The four tubular legs splay outwards and are integrated with a circular horizontal brace that functions as a footrest. The maker name NICOLLE is embossed in capital letters on the leg brace. The legs terminate in small dark glides.
Condition report:
The chair is in used industrial condition. There are numerous surface scratches and scuffs visible across the metallic finish, most notably on the seat and backrest. Light surface oxidation and pitting are evident in areas where the finish has worn. The leg glides show signs of wear consistent with use. The frame is structurally sound.
